Wrightchoice CSA U14’s Cup Triumph

Seer Green went ahead after 6 minutes with a nicely taken goal and looked to put Wrightchoice under pressure right from the kick-off. Wrightchoice responded to losing a goal well by playing some breathtaking football and were soon level when Devante Corbin-Chandler’s effort rebounded to Kensley Maloney, who tucked it away to make it 1-1.

Seer Green went ahead again before the break but Wrightchoice responded once more in the second half with some excellent combination play down the left side between Corbin-Chandler and Tamille Roache, which finished with Corbin-Chandler toe-poking the ball past the keeper.

Devante Corbin-Chandler wasn’t finished, and it was his long-range effort in the second half of extra time that clinched it for Wrightchoice.

The boys were very happy to be crowned League Cup Champions. The majority of the team members have been involved in Wrightchoice’s charity project since it began in 2003 and they are delighted that the dedication they have put in since they begun has lead to them winning this trophy.

Wrightchoice CSA have been crowned kings of Berkshire and Buckinghamshire

The game started at a tempo you would expect any final to start with both teams putting a lot of pressure on the ball and flying in with strong tackles. Once the game settled down it was Wrightchoice who took control of the ball and started getting some good possession football together. The majority of the game was being played in the Kings Head half without the Kings Head keeper being worked on too many occasions. Wrightchoice had a few promising breaks down both flanks, with Ian Griffin, the Wrightchoice right back putting in a few crosses to test the Kings Head back four. Despite putting on pressure and getting a few corners, Wrightchoice were unable to break the Kings Head defence down and it was actually the team from Newbury who had the best chance of the half. A free kick drifted into the box was hit on the volley at the back post and flew over, so the teams went into half time with the game still goalless.

The second half started a lot like the first half had gone. Wrightchoice were in possession of the ball, trying to find a way to break the Kings Head backline. Midfielders Josh Huggins and Philip John were both looking dangerous with runs from midfield and the Kings Head defence were dropping deeper and deeper to negate the threat. John felt he should have won his team a penalty with about half an hour to go when he beat two players to get into the box before being sent tumbling. All eyes were on the referee but he wasn’t convinced. The referee, however, did have work to do later in the game when Kings Head managed to win a free-kick right on the edge of the Wrightchoice area. The defensive wall was not very well placed but a curled effort was well gathered by Simon Grant, the Wrightchoice keeper. That didn’t stop a Kings Head attacker rushing attempting to kick the ball out of the keepers’ hands. This then started a confrontation between both sets of players, resulting in a Kings Head player being dismissed for violent conduct.

Wrightchoice having the one-man advantage meant that Simon Chandler, the Wrightchoice manager put an extra player upfront to try and win the game before extra time. His gamble paid off when Kingsbeer found himself with time on the edge of the area and was able to pick his spot to make the sports charity from Reading Berks and Bucks Cup Champions for the first time.
