Wrightchoice Community Fun Night

The community night caters for approximately 100 boys & girls from the ages of 5 to 12. The hour session is designed to provide an opportunity for children to develop soccer skills in a structured, safe and most importantly enjoyable environment.

Coaches are concerned with offering opportunities for children to develop fundamental football skills by delivering practices that focus on balance & co-ordination, agility and ball mastery. The delivery of the sessions ensures that the children are continually active and have plenty of contact time with the football. For example, boys and girls have the opportunity to learn and practice a variety of skills and techniques, which can be practiced at home at their own leisure with a ball.

The children also have the opportunity to participate in a small-sided match. This is a great way for young players to try and apply some of their newfound skills and techniques in a game environment with continuous positive reinforcement and encouragement from the coaches. All in all Wrightchoice CSA’s Community Fun Night is a brilliant way for young players to come and have fun, practice their skills, learn new techniques with guidance and encouragement from qualified enthusiastic coaches.

Come join in on a Friday evening at Academy Sport Leisure Centre, Northumberland Road. 6.30pm-7.30pm. Please arrive at 6.15pm

Wrightchoice Elite Centre

Wrightchoice Elite centre is designed to provide advanced coaching to youth players demonstrating a higher level of ability than the average child in their respective age groups. We feel that by grouping young players who excel at their current level together, and placing them in a progressive environment that provides advanced coaching, we assist these young players in reaching their footballing potential. The small size of the group allows our UEFA B licensed coach to focus on the strengths and weaknesses of each individual, which aids the effectiveness of the session and the skill development of our talented young players. In addition to the development of individual technical skill, Wrightchoice’s elite centre provides an environment for youth players to develop in small team group play, for example 3 versus 3, or 4 versus 4. We believe that in essence, a game of football is made up of movements involving individual and small groups in all areas of the pitch; therefore our elite training methods demonstrate this characteristic of the 11-a-side game.

Example session plan – Technical dribbling & passing

  1. 10 minute dynamic warm up with ball contact
  2. 10 minute individual ball mastery & dribble technique
  3. 15 minute passing & receiving technique
  4. 20 minute 3 versus 3 group play
  5. 5 minute cool down

Importance of detail in training

Wrightchoice believes that young players must be given detailed individual attention to their personal development. We want to produce elite players for the future, therefore we believe our promising young players must be evaluated through a process of individual assessment in order to ensure that they receive the appropriate coaching and mentoring to maintain their areas of strength and develop their areas of weakness.

Wrightchoice elite centre currently provides a weekly session where promising youngsters are armed with the technical, physical, social and psychological armoury players will need in order to excel in the modern game of football.

Wrightchoice Sports Development Session

Wrightchoice Community Sports Association offers a service in local Primary Schools that is concerned with the holistic development of children. Wrightchoice places a high importance on offering children the opportunity to be in an environment, which allows them to progress from a physical, psychological and social perspective through fun sporting activity.

We have a strong belief that sport can be used as a vehicle to drive future success, thus we ensure that the content of our sessions are not only focused on specific sport skill development, but are structured in a manner that develops all areas of the child and promotes a healthy lifestyle for children to take into their adult life.

Aims & objectives of our session

Each hourly session is designed to meet various needs of the children, which fall under the headings of physical, psychological and social development.

Physical development

Our sessions consist of an assortment of exercises that are designed to work on the fundamental motor skills every child needs within both sport and everyday life. Coaches are concerned with offering opportunities for children to develop fundamental motor skills by delivering practices that focus on

  • Balance
  • Co-ordination
  • Agility
  • Ball mastery

We are of firm belief that by providing children freedom and time to explore various movements and skills with and without a ball they will develop the basic capabilities that will assist them in their general well being and possible future sporting exploits.

Psychological and social development

Our coaches are skilled in creating an environment in which the children are continually encouraged and their efforts are positively reinforced. We feel that by placing children in these kinds of environments we are fostering their self-esteem and well-being. Furthermore, coaches encourage children to attempt new skills whilst being creative and innovative. This is so the children are intrinsically motivated within their activity, which is very positive for their overall development.

The nature of the Wrightchoice environment is designed to support various social and psychological benefits through positive interaction between the coach and the children and the children themselves including

  • Positive self-esteem
  • Positive self image
  • Intrinsic motivation
  • Team building
  • Social cohesion
  • Development of role models

In the 07/08 academic year Wrightchoice delivered this project at 6 primary schools in the Reading area including Geoffrey Fields, George Palmer, Christ the King, New Christchurch, Battle Primary and St Michael's and we received really positive feedback from the kids, their parents and their teachers.

The charity is currently in the process of obtaining funding to deliver this project again in the near future. If you are interested in sponsoring this project or would like Wrightchoice to come to your school please contact our Project Manager Simon Chandler on 07939808524 or Programme Manager Jonnie Clarke on 07882976501.
